This car takes a lot of work, but are you surprised it only sold for $ 12,500?
It's nigh on impossible to put any value on a car that takes this much work, but this charger recently sold on eBay for just $ 12,500, which makes us scratch our heads a little. While reporting a little the other way around, the car is running and you'd think that would be enough to raise the price of this Dodge Charger 500 a bit. Now we're wondering a little whether the used car boom is making people pull out of project cars right now, or is there a lack of raw materials to make auto parts that are needed for restoration?
We stand firmly on the idea that a collector / classic / classic is exactly what you have, worth exactly as someone is going to pay for it, but this seems like a real bargain. One of those cars in "running" condition can easily fetch $ 50,000 to $ 60,000, and everything goes up from there - a meticulously 1970s charger could easily pull in much bigger numbers.
This particular Dodge Charger 500 sat for 32 years before it was auctioned off on eBay, without reservation! According to the ad from the owner at the time, it had been kept in a barn, and yet the engine started and ran. Oddly enough, the seller stated that the wheels of the car would stay with him, perhaps this was the factor that led to the lack of enthusiastic bidders.
Good or bad, it doesn't have the original engine under the hood either, but switching from a 5.2 liter 318 cubic inch to a 383 cubic inch 6.3 liter is an upgrade. Although it would be cooler with a manual transmission, it was sold with a 727 automatic transmission that supports the swapped engine.
