2 Infected Hairstylists & 140 Customers Wore Masks — No New Infections Occurred
Two infected hairdressers wearing masks did not infect their customers, who also covered their faces
As the coronavirus pandemic continues, you probably know people who refuse to wear a face mask to stop the disease from spreading. They often screech that masks don't really help and proudly continue their lives. They may infect everyone they encounter thanks to the possibility of asymptomatic spread. Now you have a story telling them that masks could eventually help stop the spread - they seem to have worked perfectly for two infected hairdressers and their 140 clients. Everyone was wearing masks and no new infections resulted from their interactions.
Check and pair.
According to NBC News, two infected hairdressers worked in a springfield, Missouri Great Clips, with 140 customers. The stylists and customers all wore face masks. After the time for a possible incubation with anyone who may have been quarantined has passed, it can be said with certainty that no transmission has taken place. Of the 140 exposed persons, including the stylists, 46 tests were followed. All of these tests were negative.
"This is exciting news about the value of masking to prevent COVID-19," said Clay Goddard, Springfield-Greene County's health director, in a statement. “We are examining the details of these exposures in more detail, including the type of face covering and the other precautions that led to this encouraging result. We never want such exposure to occur, but this situation will greatly expand our understanding of the spread of this novel corona virus. "
The statement also notes that Great Clips has taken other measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, including "distancing salon chairs, staggering appointments, and other measures that are also under investigation".
In a statement to an NBC partner, Great Clips said, "We care a lot about the wellbeing of clients, salon workers, and the communities we serve, and we are grateful for the health of these people." Local salon locations needed to be received are temporarily closed by threats.
Why is that important? As infections continue to increase and states are pushing for reopening, it is inevitable that more people will be exposed to the virus. Wearing masks could be the key to America (and the rest of the world) resuming normal life without overwhelming hospitals and causing unnecessary illness, grief, and devastation.
The state of Missouri is fully reopened as of today. They have a total of 16,189 cases, an increase of 6.5% in the past seven days.
