A pair of Ice White Mustangs aren't the only goodies Ford picked up on the Woodward Dream Cruise. The Detroit Car-Palooza celebrates the original Ford Bronco this year, so Ford brought a 2022 model year Bronco to the show in one of next year's new colors: Eruption Green Metallic. Earlier this month we wrote about a rumored leak in the Bronco color palette for next year, but the leak only mentioned eight of the current 11 colors, all eight are now available. Ford had already admitted that the Bronco will get new colors next year, and the Bronco Nation forum said one of them would be green. The automaker fooled this year with a light green-striped Bronco Fire Rig concept created using Filson outdoor clothing. Eruption Green Metallic is the real deal - the wild shade we envisioned was on its way after the pallet leak.
Ford calls the new color an update to Mallard Green that was available on the original Bronco. This one is "evergreen-inspired, with yellow highlights that really connect it with nature". Another writer wrote that "the new color has yellow highlights that make it look like a coniferous forest at sunrise," a line that sounds like it came straight from the host at the debut event in Woodward.
The second color that Ford has announced for the Bronco next year is Hot Pepper Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat. The new Ranger offered this color earlier, but gave it up for Race Red and Rapid Red; now the upcoming Maverick is offering Hot Pepper Red. A member of the Bronco6G forum apparently dug up an image of a Hot Pepper Red Bronco from Ford's configurator files, but it lacks the vibrancy of the hue in vivid color.
The new green and red will be available on every Bronco in the range, a treat for the Basic and Big Bend Bronco buyers who won't be able to access the full range this year. The new colors join Area 51, Cactus Gray, Carbonized Gray, Cyber Orange, Iconic Silver, Oxford White, Race Red, Shadow Black and Velocity Blue.
Ford says Antimatter Blue, Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, and Lightning Blue Metallic will go away in 2022, but Lightning Blue was only available in the First Edition, which sold out a long time ago. The other two colors will remain on the menu until the end of the current model year.
For all Bronco buyers who have moved their orders for MJ 2021 to 2022 and have their truck configured with Antimatter Blue or Rapid Red, it is probably time to call. Or can Ford interest you in an evergreen forest at sunrise?
