A 3-year-old suffered severe burns to his lower body and back after falling into hot water in Yellowstone National Park.
On Friday morning, the kid "ran" off the path near the Midway Geyser Basin before slipping and falling into a small thermal feature, the park said in a press release.
The child suffered second degree thermal burns after falling into hot water and was flown to Burn Center at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
According to the publication, the soil in hydrothermal areas is fragile and thin with boiling water just below the surface.

The incident is being investigated further and no further information about the child's condition is available.
This is the second "major breach" to occur in a thermal area this year, the park said.
In May, a woman was burned after illegally entering Yellowstone National Park and falling backwards into a thermal feature.
The unidentified woman drove to the park despite the fact that it has been closed to the public since March due to the novel coronavirus, according to the Associated Press.

She reportedly took photos near the Old Faithful geyser when she withdrew too far and fell into a hot spring that suffered multiple burns.
After the fall, the woman drove about 50 miles before being stopped by park rangers about a mile south of Mammoth Hot Springs, NBC Montana reported. She was then flown to the Burn Center at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for life, park officials said.
"Hot springs have injured or killed more people in Yellowstone than any other natural feature," explains the park's website.
To avoid these hot areas, the park encourages all visitors to stay on the boardwalks provided.
