4 arrested in Mexico crash that killed current, ex-governor

MEXICO CITY (AP) - Four people were arrested in connection with a helicopter crash in 2018 that killed a central Mexican governor and her husband, who preceded her as governor.
The Agusta 109 helicopter crashed into flames 10 minutes after taking off on December 24th this year while carrying newly installed Puebla Governor Martha Erika Alonso and her husband, former Governor Rafael Moreno Valle, and three other people.
Puebla prosecutors said the four suspects worked for a Rotor Flight Services, a company "linked to the operation of the aircraft". The suspects have been charged with culpable murder, damage to someone else's property and false testimony.

Mexico City prosecutors said the woman arrested in the capital was in charge of the shop where the helicopter was serviced on Friday.
Mexico's then-Minister of Communications and Transportation, Javier Jiménez Espriú, said in March 2019 that investigators had concluded that the crash was likely due to a technical problem known to the company operating the helicopter and said, "He shouldn't have been flying."
He said maintenance records showed a pre-existing problem with stability systems and a piece with two loose screws inside.
The crash aroused political suspicion as Moreno Valle was a rising figure in the opposition National Action Party that ruled Mexico from 2000 to 2012. This party lost the state elections to replace Alonso.
Her own victory in 2018 had been questioned by current President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's party, but was confirmed.
