Supernatural is almost over, but Jensen Ackles already has his next role in the series, joining The Boys as Soldier Boy in the upcoming third season. So who exactly is Soldier Boy and how was he in the comics? By the sound of things, he's quite a colorful character, even though he's not one of the "main" superheroes. These are the four things you should know about the comic book version of Soldier Boy - spoilers ahead, of course!
1. He's basically a parody of Captain America
A serum-fortified World War II super soldier with a patriotic theme and a clear, morally superior personality - it's pretty clear that Soldier Boy is an over-the-top parody of Captain America. In the comics he is much more old-fashioned and naive than the other superheroes and refuses to engage in cursing, casual sex and the other hedonistic behavior of his colleagues. He also takes the whole "patriotic hero" thing to a comical, exaggerated level, often making cheesy, faux-patriotic lines or using a running list of American states as a "battle cry". Because of his squeaky clean personality, he's chosen the leader of a team called Payback, which includes Stormfront (another hint that she won't be there by the end of season two), but he longs to join The Seven.
2. His powers are mostly physical
One of the biggest differences between the Soldier Boy and the Cap is the heart. Basically Soldier Boy is a deconstruction of all the external traits of Captain America and similar characters, but without the sharp tactics and big heart. The first Soldier Boy to fight during World War II received superpowers from an experimental serum called Compound V. As a result, he gained strength and heightened reflexes, as well as a healing factor that allows him to keep fighting even after injuries and take a normal human down. However, it is not immortal or completely immune to harm.
3. He is a legacy character
This healing factor aids in the ruse that Soldier Boy is a person who has been aging extremely slowly since the 1940s. In fact, there were several Soldier Boys. The original's lack of intelligence and heart turned out to be his downfall: he made a selfish, bad call that resulted in his camp being discovered by the Germans and his entire team, with the exception of himself and the future founder of The Boys . While the superhero community maintains the pretext of being a long-lived WWII veterinarian, the title is actually a legacy. Today's Soldier Boy - the one Ackles is likely to play - is actually the third Soldier Boy.
4. He has a scary story with one of the seven
The most headline-grabbing part of Soldier Boy's arc, however, is its story with Homelander (who is basically a dark parody or deconstruction of Superman). During an annual event that brings superheroes together for a week of debauchery, drugs, and sex, Soldier Boy is tricked into having sex with Homelander on false pretenses: he believes he is undergoing a recruitment test to join The Seven while Homelander knows exactly this is not the case.
