Gordon Ramsay's 19-year-old daughter Tilly has spoken out against LBC presenter Steve Allen.
She called Allen a "chubby little thing" and said he imagined it was "her father's cooking".
Numerous celebrities and the British Ambassador for Young Mental Health came to Tilly's defense.
Gordon Ramsay's daughter said she would "not tolerate" a radio host who called her "chubby" on his show.
"She's a chubby little thing, isn't she? Steve Allen, the 67-year-old host of talk radio station Leading Britain's Conversation (LBC) early breakfast show, said on the air on Wednesday.
"Probably her father is cooking, I can imagine," he added, referring to her father, the celebrity chef.
19-year-old Matilda "Tilly" Ramsay is a TikTok star with over 9.6 million followers, who first became known for being featured on the BBC cooking show "Matilda and the Ramsay Bunch," which ran from 2015 to 2019 with the rest broadcast by her family. She is currently on the newest season of the UK's Strictly Come Dancing series.
Before commenting on how she looked, Allen also said, Tilly "can't fucking dance, I'm bored with her."
Tilly took to Instagram on Wednesday to respond to Allen's derogatory comments. She shared a short clip of Allen's remarks and posted a letter in which she replied in detail to the radio station.
"I'm trying not to read and listen to comments and negativity, but to have a recent call from a 67-year-old man on a national radio station is a step too far," Tilly wrote at the beginning of the letter. The post has garnered over 384,000 likes and 20,000 comments on Instagram, where it has 1.1 million followers.
"I understand that being in public has its own effects and I was aware of that from a young age," she continued. "However, I won't tolerate people who think it's okay to comment publicly and question someone's weight and appearance."
Tilly's response went viral online when a number of stars spoke out against Allen's comments.
BBC London weather presenter Kate Kinsella shared a screenshot of Tilly's post on Twitter on Thursday morning and collected over 3,000 likes and 200 retweets. “At 47, I still find it hard to accept myself thanks to years of comments like the one she mentioned,” Kinsella wrote in the tweet, thanking Tilly for “standing up” and “calling her so eloquently” and honest said.
Other celebrities like English actor and comedian Jason Manford also came to Tilly's defense. Manford, who has nearly 400,000 Twitter followers, tweeted on Wednesday that Allen was a "bitter old ass" who criticized Tilly's body for "keeping it relevant again."
Cristo Foufas, a talkRADIO radio host who previously worked at LBC, said in a tweet on Wednesday that Allen "regularly spoke about how fat I was on the air, even at the height of my eating disorder".
Dr. Alex George, an officially appointed Young Mental Health Ambassador for the UK, shared a screenshot on Instagram Wednesday of a letter he allegedly sent to LBC criticizing Allen's remarks and asking the radio station for a response.
"I am absolutely horrified by these statements," he wrote. "It is widely recognized how harmful such comments about a person's weight are and the effects they can have on a person's mental health."
Body shaming can cause psychological distress and is directly related to depressive symptoms in people, with obese adolescents having a significantly higher risk, researchers found in a 2018 study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.
Tilly shared George's post on her Instagram story on Wednesday and wrote "thank you very much".
Tilly's father Gordon did not comment on the incident. Tilly has not commented on the situation since that last story.
Gordon, Tilly, LBC, and Allen did not respond to requests for comment.
