The Trump 2020 campaign posted a new ad on Saturday that included an out of context comment from Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute for Allergies and Infectious Diseases.
During an interview with Fox News, Fauci praised the work of the White House's coronavirus task force - not President Donald Trump, as the ad implies.
Polls show that Trump received bad marks from Americans for his handling of the coronavirus.

The Trump 2020 campaign posted an ad on Saturday with White House coronavirus expert Dr. Anthony Fauci, who praised the president for his handling of the coronavirus. But the campaign took Fauci's words out of context.
"I can't imagine that ... anyone could do more," says Fauci in the 30-second ad. His line follows a series of images and narrative in support of President Donald Trump's response to the coronavirus, suggesting that Fauci also gave his stamp of approval.
However, Fauci did comment on the long hours worked by members of the White House's coronavirus task force in an interview with Fox News in March. Trump is not a member of the task force.
"I'm with the task force at the White House almost every day," Fauci said in an interview with Fox News. "I'm connected by phone all day and into the night, and when I say night, I speak 12, 1, 2 in the morning. I'm not the only one. There's a whole group of us who do that." that. It's every day. So under no circumstances can I imagine that anyone could do more. "
When asked about Fauci's quote in the campaign ad, Tim Murtaugh, communications director for the Trump 2020 campaign, told Business Insider, "It's the president's coronavirus task force."
Fauci told CNN that he did not consent to appear on the ad and said his comments had been taken out of context.
"In my nearly five decades in the public service, I have never publicly supported a political candidate," said Fauci. "The comments attributed to me on the GOP campaign ad without my permission have been taken out of the context of a broad statement I made months ago about the efforts of federal health officials."
The new ad comes just a few weeks before the presidential election and also when Trump recovers from the corona virus. He had been hospitalized at Walter Reed Medical Center for a few days before returning to the White House.
The ad, titled Careful, opens to a video of Trump in a mask, and includes additional pictures and videos of seniors and medical professionals.
"President Trump is recovering from the corona virus, as is America. And together we have faced the challenge," reads the ad just before Fauci delivers the context-independent line. "We protect our seniors, get them life-saving drugs in record time and save money. President Trump has tackled the virus directly, as those responsible should do."
Trump has received poor marks for the U.S. response to the pandemic. A new Reuters / Ipsos poll found that only 37% of respondents said they approved of his treatment for the disease.
Fauci and Trump were often at odds on important issues related to the coronavirus. In August, Fauci said the United States had seen an increase in COVID-19 cases, in part because the economy was shut down by around 50% compared to Europe, which was almost completely shut down. Trump vehemently contradicted Fauci's statements.
"Not correct!" Trump wrote in a tweet. "We have more cases because we have tested far more than any other country, 60,000,000. If we had tested less, there would be fewer cases. How did Italy, France and Spain fare? Now, unfortunately, Europe has flare-ups. Most of them our governors have worked hard & smart. We will come back STRONG! "
The coronavirus has infected more than 7.7 million people in the United States, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University. More than 214,000 of them died.
