Adult film star Ron Jeremy charged with rape, sexual assault

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Adult film star Ron Jeremy has been accused of raping three women and sexually assaulting a fourth, Los Angeles County prosecutors said Tuesday.
The counts make 67-year-old Jeremy the third man, along with Harvey Weinstein and producer David Guillod, who was indicted in 2017 by a task force formed by District Attorney Jackie Lacey to investigate sexual misconduct in the entertainment industry.
Jeremy, nicknamed "The Hedgehog", is one of the best known and most productive actors in the history of the adult film industry with thousands of credits.
Jeremy, real name Ronald Jeremy Hyatt, appeared in court on Tuesday. He wore handcuffs and a face mask, but did not enter. A judge delayed his indictment until Friday and set his bail at $ 6.6 million.
Jeremy's lawyer, Stuart Goldfarb, said he was “absolutely innocent of the charges. It is not a close call. "
Jeremy was charged with three counts of rape and forced entry of a foreign body, and one count of violent oral copulation and sexual battery each. If he is convicted of all charges, he faces 90 years in prison.
Prosecutors allege that Jeremy raped a 25-year-old woman in a West Hollywood house in May 2014, a 33-year-old woman and a 46-year-old woman in various incidents in a West Hollywood bar in 2017, sexually assaulting and raping one 30-year-old woman in the same bar last July.
Goldfarb said that witnesses who spoke to both detectives and his own investigator had expressed doubts about the allegations. The lawyer said Jeremy frequently dealt with her consent in public appearances and suggested that his long life as an adult actor reduced the likelihood of committing sexual crimes.
"There is absolutely no reason for him to ever be aggressive towards women," said Goldfarb. "He had more women than you can count."
He added that the deposit was "terribly high".
Jeremy was investigated by the Hollywood Task Force after being formed during a wave of sexual misconduct allegations that began in late 2017 with media reports about Weinstein that ushered in the #MeToo era.
The task force has examined more than 20 men, but Jeremy is only the third to be indicted.
Prosecutors have made efforts to bring Weinstein to California to file rape and sexual assault charges. He is being held in a New York prison after being convicted of similar charges earlier this year. He has refused to engage in non-consensual sex.
On Monday, Guillod, a producer of the 2017 film Atomic Blonde and the 2020 Netflix film Extraction, was arrested in Santa Barbara County and charged with eleven crimes, most of which were rapes by Lacey's task force was examined.
Guillod's lawyer Philip K. Cohen said in a statement that "Mr. Guillod has contested these allegations in the past eight years" and "an overwhelming amount of evidence has been gathered in the course of this investigation to support these allegations."
The Los Angeles Prosecutor's Office accused actor Danny Masterson of raping three women last week, despite the fact that the investigation preceded the formation of the Hollywood Task Force. Masterson denied the charges and his lawyer said he would be confirmed.
Another 2016 allegation against Jeremy was rejected by the task force for insufficient evidence.
In recent years, Jeremy has appeared in more mainstream entertainment, including music videos and reality television shows like "The Surreal Life".
