Far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has backed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and withdrew his support for former President Donald Trump.
During an Infowars broadcast this week, Jones declared that he would no longer be "stubbornly" supporting Trump.
Jones said he disagreed with Trump over Operation Warp Speed — the former president's initiative to manufacture COVID-19 vaccines launched in May 2020 — but supported him nonetheless. He added that he believes Trump needs to be kept in power at this point to prevent the "nightmare scenario" of Joe Biden being elected president.
“That means I support DeSantis. DeSantis just went from great to incredible," Jones said. The far-right presenter added that he could see "genuine sincerity" in DeSanti's eyes when watching footage of lawmakers.

"We have someone better than Trump. Much better than Trump," Jones said, describing DeSantis as the person "who Trump should be."
While Jones was known as a die-hard Trump supporter, he was also among several MAGAworld fringe groups who lashed out at Trump last December after the former president urged people to take the COVID-19 vaccine.
In February 2021, the Justice Department and the FBI began investigating whether Jones played a role in the Capitol riots. Earlier this month, a jury found Jones liable for $45.2 million in punitive damages owed to the parents of a Sandy Hook shooting victim. He had been sued for defamation over his false claims that the shooting was staged.
Jones isn't the only MAGAverse character whose support for Trump seems to be faltering. This week, Fox News host Laura Ingraham said Americans are "weary" from political conflict and may feel it is "time to turn the page on Trump." Other figures supporting DeSantis include podcast host Joe Rogan and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Jones, who is withdrawing his support for Trump, arrives amid turmoil at Trumpworld over last Monday's FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago. The Justice Department is investigating whether Trump violated any of three federal laws - including the Espionage Act - by keeping classified documents at his Florida residence.
DeSantis and Trump are the leading contenders for the 2024 Republican presidential ticket, though neither has made a formal declaration of participation in the race.
DeSantis and Trump officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider.
