Amanda Knox doesn't seem to be thrilled with Matt Damon's new film Stillwater, which is said to be inspired by her life. According to Deadline, the film “revolves around an American robber on an Oklahoma oil rig (Damon) who travels to Marseille to visit his estranged daughter (Abigail Breslin), who is in jail for a murder she allegedly did not commit. Confronted with language barriers, cultural differences and a complicated legal system, he is building a new life in France and making it his personal mission to relieve them. "
I mean yes. Definitely sounds like it is based on Amanda Knox, who brought it up to Medium and Twitter with a long explanation / essay accusing the film of benefiting from her without her consent.
"Is my name mine?" Amanda wrote. "Has my face? What about my life My story? Why is my name used to refer to events I was not a part of? Most recently the film Stillwater. "
She continued, "This new film from director Tom McCarthy, starring Matt Damon, is 'loosely' or 'directly inspired' by the 'Amanda Knox saga' as featured in Vanity Fair in an for-profit article promoting a for-profit film I have no connection. I want to pause here at this sentence: "The Amanda Knox saga". What does this mean? Does it relate to everything I've done? No. It relates to the events that resulted from the assassination of Meredith Kercher through a burglar named Rudy Guede. It refers to the sloppy policing, the tunnel vision of the prosecutor and the refusal to admit their mistakes, which led the Italian authorities to wrongly convict me twice. "

Amanda went on to ask how fictionalized events based on her might affect her real life.
"By fictionalizing away my innocence, my utter lack of involvement, and erasing the role of the authorities in my unjustified conviction, McCarthy strengthens my image as a guilty and untrustworthy person. And with Matt Damon's star power, both are sure to benefit." well from this fictionalization of the 'Amanda Knox saga', which is sure to make many viewers ask, 'Maybe the real Amanda was somehow involved.' "
She ended the piece by writing: “I was not allowed to return to the relative anonymity that I had before Perugia. My only option is to sit idly while others continue to distort my character, or to fight to restore my reputation that has been wrongly destroyed. ”It's an uphill battle. I will probably not succeed. But I've been here before. I know what it is like to face impossible opportunities. "
