Amy Klobuchar and Lindsey Graham call on Biden to resettle Yazidi women enslaved by ISIS
Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) And Lindsey Graham (RS.C) are calling on the Biden government to help relocate Yazidi women who were victims of a brutal Islamic State campaign in Iraq from 2014 to 2017 Axios shared.
The background story: Thousands of women from the Yazidi religious minority were enslaved by IS and raped by their kidnappers, as the senators noted in a letter to Foreign Minister Tony Blinken and Minister of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. Many were forced into marriages and converted to Islam.

Many later had children who, because their fathers were both non-Yazidis and often the perpetrators of genocide against the sect, may not have been accepted by the community.
What They Say: "After the women were liberated, they learned that their young children were in danger of being killed if they were returned home to the Yazidi region of northern Iraq," write Klobuchar and Graham.
"These women then faced the difficult decision of whether to return home or stay in shelters with their children."
The senators are calling on the Biden administration to accept some of the Yazidi women as refugees in the US and to urge countries in the region to do the same.
Conclusion: "It is time for the United States to exercise its leadership on behalf of these women and children. We ask you to take steps to find a home for them," they write.
