An Alabama high school student was charged with stealing a fire extinguisher, likely from a TikTok viral challenge known as "sneaky leaks."
Robertsdale High School principal Joe Sharp said the unidentified student was caught by cameras taking the fire extinguisher and was suspended, the Associated Press reported.
According to the report, the “devil leaks” challenge - which promotes theft and vandalism on school grounds - went viral on the social media platform this month.
Users said they stole multiple items at school, including soap dispensers and SMART boards, Insider reported. The widespread trend has schools and parents warning students of possible legal punishment for stealing equipment.
TikTok has also removed the hashtag #deviouslicks from its app.
“We expect our community to stay safe and responsible, and we don't allow content that encourages or enables criminal activity. We are removing this content and forwarding hashtags and search results to our community guidelines to prevent such behavior, ”a TikTok spokesman told Insider earlier this week.
This isn't the first time TikTok has removed content associated with a popular trend.
Last month, TikTok removed the hashtag "Milk Crate Challenge," which said the platform "prohibits content that promotes or glorifies dangerous conduct, and we are removing videos and directing searches to our Community Guidelines to prevent such content."
