An American citizen and former Marine who studied in Russia was found dead on Saturday a few days after her disappearance, Russian media reported.
Catherine Serou, 34, was last seen getting into a car on Tuesday. NPR reported she texted her Mississippi mother Beccy Serou that day to say, "In a car with a stranger. I hope I'm not kidnapped."
Russia's investigative committee said Serou's body was found after a major search in a wooded area near Bor, about 400 kilometers from Moscow, The Associated Press reported. The cause of death was not given.
The committee said a suspect with a criminal record was on remand but was not named.

Beccy Serou told NPR that she believes her daughter may have gotten into someone else's car instead of an Uber in an accident because she was in a hurry to get back to a clinic that failed to receive a payment she made.
"I think when she saw that the person was not going to the clinic, but was driving into a forest, they panicked," she told NPR on Friday.
Serou moved to Russia in 2019 to study law at Lobachevsky University in Nizhny Novgorod. She previously served in the Marine Corps and toured Afghanistan.
A video released by Russian news site NN.RU last year shows Serou talking about the differences between the US and Russia while speaking alternately in English and Russian.
