AnnaLynne McCord shares her diagnosis of dissociative identity disorder (DID), previously known as multiple personality disorder.
The Nip / Tuck actress recently discussed in a conversation with Dr. Daniel Amen on DID. "I'm absolutely uninterested in shame," she said of the stigma surrounding the disorder.
"There is nothing more on my journey to be ashamed of," said 33-year-old McCord. "And so we get to the point where we can articulate the nature of these ubiquitous traumas and things, terrible as they are."

McCord, who confirmed in her interview that she was previously diagnosed with DID, has spoken in the past about the teenage rape and the trauma it caused. "I was on treatment for PTSD a year ago and memories of child sexual abuse came back for years until I was 11," she told PEOPLE in September 2019.

She discussed her memory loss in relation to such traumatic events in the last interview and explained, "I don't have anything until around 5:00 am. Then I tell incidents from 5 to 11 continuously. When I was 13, I have a single memory that was one thing but I have no mind for anything else at the time. "
The anti-human trafficking activist announced that her work as an actress helped bring her DID to light. "All of my roles were split, but I didn't even realize I was doing this until I got on Project 90210," she said of Beverly Hills spin-off, 90210, which ran for five seasons from 2008 to 2008 CW ran in 2013.
It wasn't until she was shooting her horror film Excision while on hiatus from the show in 2012 that something was triggered. "I played a very cerebral, distraught, weird little girl who was very close to who I believe I am inside. It was very insightful, very confrontational, probably a bit re-traumatizing without even realizing it "she said about the role.

"The crazy thing was that I packed this movie at 2 a.m. on a Tuesday and had to be a happy, crazy blonde bombshell from Beverly Hills on Wednesday at 12 noon," she said. "I couldn't find it, it wasn't accessible. I was dark, I was immersed in this Pauline figure and I couldn't get out."
McCord also recalled being "aware" of her true identity and a split personality she called "little Anna" when she was 13.
"She was a ball on the wall, middle finger in the sky, anarchist from hell who will stab you with the spike ring she wears and you will like it. Then she will make you lick the blood off it . " She said. "She was a nasty little creature, but I'm so grateful to her for getting me out of the hell I was in."
