Anne Hathaway Praises Anjelica Huston for Role in Original Witches as She Takes Over Character

Anne Hathaway sends love from one witch to another.
On Friday, the actress shared a cute post on Instagram praising Anjelica Huston for her "flawless and iconic" performance as the Grand High Witch in the 1990s dark comedy The Witches, a role that is upcoming for Hathaway on HBO Max The role will be played by the eponymous Halloween film.
"Could you please take a moment to celebrate Anjelica Huston's flawless and iconic twist as The Grand High Witch with me?" Hathaway started the post which included several images of Huston from the original film.
"Her performance is great - funny, memorable, scary as hell, and sheer perfection," she continued, adding, "the scene where she knocks the baby off the cliff keeps [her] shivering to this day."
Not only will Hathaway, 37, be playing the same role as Huston, but she also noted that the two actresses have the same initials.

"I just wanted to say that I give my wig to O.G.G.H.W. Anjelica Huston," she wrote, closing the post with the hashtags "Witches Are Real" and "The Witches Movie".

Last week Warner Bros. Pictures released the first trailer for The Witches, based on Roald Dahl's 1983 classic of the same name.
The witches who skip the theaters and go straight to HBO Max later this month are about a young boy who comes across a secret group of witches and, with the help of his loving grandmother, tries to stop her evil plan to change everything kids the world in mice.
The film, directed by Robert Zemeckis, stars Hathaway as the cunning top witches and Octavia Spencer as the cute but tenacious grandmother who will try to defeat Hathaway and her coven.

The Halloween flick reunites Hathaway with her The Devil Wears Prada costar Stanley Tucci. The actor plays the city's hotel manager who inadvertently hosts the group of creepy yet glamorous witches for a convention.
Zemeckis (Death Becomes Her) produced the film with the director and wrote the screenplay with Kenya Barris and Guillermo del Toro.
Hathaway recently told PEOPLE that her role requires a lot of groundwork.
"The Grand High Witch was a total collaboration between the costumes, hair and makeup, the writers, my dialect coach, the effects department, stunts, [director] Bob Zemeckis and me," she said. "She's such a crazy woman - so goofy and over the top - and everyone had to work together to be on the same page to make it feel big and fun, but never too much."
The Witches premiered on October 22nd on HBO Max.
