AP source: LSU defensive coordinator Pelini leaving program

LSU defense coordinator Bo Pelini is leaving the program after a difficult season in which the Tigers allowed six opponents to win more than 500 meters, said a person familiar with the situation.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on Monday on condition of anonymity as the terms of Pelini's departure were not final and had not been disclosed.
Pelini, who was hired after Dave Aranda left the Tigers to become Baylor's head coach, signed a four-year deal with LSU valued at more than $ 9 million. He would still owe nearly $ 7 million under his contract, but could agree to a buyout for less than that as coaches routinely do when they leave earlier than planned.
Pelini was in his second stint as defensive coordinator with LSU, after serving in the same capacity under Les Miles when the Tigers won a national title in the 2007 season. Pelini left LSU to become Nebraska's head coach in 2008 and was head coach of Youngstown State for five years before returning to LSU.
That year, he inherited a defense that was decimated by the 2020 NFL draft and subsequent opt-outs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The LSU has been forced to play numerous newbies and other relatively inexperienced players, and coverage problems have often emerged, with opposing players running free for big wins.
The LSU allowed five opponents to score more than 40 points, starting with a season opener, a 44:34 loss to the state of Mississippi in which the Bulldogs passed for 623 yards.
LSU allowed 650 yards in a 55-17 loss to Alabama on December 5th.
