Appears Bills coaching staff helped Jordan Poyer handle Pro Bowl snub
The Bills coaching team appeared to be there for Jordan Poyer earlier this week for safety reasons. It is just speculation, but we will connect a few dots for this point.
On Monday, the NFL announced the first Pro Bowl rosters. Five players on the bills did it, Poyer not to the surprise of many.
Before that news was released, Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott was chatting over his weekly video conference Monday. Meanwhile, he pointed out a possible mistake. McDermott did not mention Poyer by name, but it seems likely that McDermott pointed out his own surprise that Poyer was not selected.
"I'm biased, but there will be more people on our team who don't understand," said McDermott.
Bill's defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, himself a former head coach, said he thought the importance of reminding this one mysterious man, possibly Poyer, of how important he is to Buffalo's defense.
"We had a man today who found out he wasn't selected for the Pro Bowl. I wanted him to know how valuable he is to our defense and what he means to our team in 2020 and that he isn't gets involved in some of the other things that are going on in the Pro Bowl voting, "Frazier said.
This is of course an important role that a coaching staff must take seriously. The 29-year-old Poyer was also overlooked in 2017 when Micah Hyde received a Pro Bowl nod, and it really felt like 2020 was the year for him. He was probably more deserving than people named by the Bills on the team.
Poyer has the most tackles than any other defensive in the NFL at 117, and that's not because the bills are burned down left and right on the field. He made his presence felt across the field this year and was a monster close to the border. In total, Poyer has two sacks, forced fiddling and interceptions, and his five passes defended.
All in all, despite his disappointment, Poyer still has a job to do. The Bills will need him to move forward and make sure his head is so little different to the right that Buffalo needs from her defense.
