Maurer was free to await a hearing after the indictment was brought before Chief District Judge Gloria W. Stitzel in Reading Central Court.
According to the criminal complaint:
Maurer selected the items on the shelf — 19 grocery items, 25 health and beauty items, and 55 miscellaneous items — and placed them in a shopping cart. She bypassed all checkout areas and attempted to leave the store.
After employees stopped her, took the car and called the police, she threw a display in front of the entrance and behaved aggressively. When a clerk tried to stop Maurer from damaging store property, Maurer pushed her and ran toward Van Reed Road. The police arrested her in the parking lot.
