‘Best one they’ve had since I’ve been here’, says anonymous Big Ten coach this Ohio State player

College football is now a quarterback-driven sport, and it's nowhere near that. Sure, there are teams out there that still win with fundamentals of the game and ball control offenses, but without a dynamic playmaker down the middle it's difficult to win anything special.
It's no secret that quarterback C.J. Stroud, from Ohio State, is one of those special athletes who could take this year's Buckeye roster to some pretty lofty places, including a Big Ten championship, a College Football Playoff appearance and a national title.

But it's one thing for Ohio State fans and coaches to think that, it's another when opposing coaches praise a player because you know it's real.
ESPN's Adam Rittenberg spoke to anonymous college football coaches for feedback on quarterbacks, and attention eventually turned to the Big Ten. And while we don't know which coach gave the praise, it was quite revealing. So much so that this "veteran" trainer went so far as to say that Stroud may be in a stratosphere of his own.
"He's something very special," said an experienced Big Ten coach to Rittenberg. "He's the best they've had since I've been here. With him they will be hard to beat.”
We don't know what the definition of veteran is, but that would lead you to believe it's a coach who is among the long-serving in the Big Ten. That would most likely mean that the coach would have at least some great quarterbacks in Justin Fields and Dwayne Haskins, maybe even J.T. Barrett. All were pretty special.

Early in the season, Stroud is one of the favorites for the Heisman Trophy, has talent around him to succeed in his second full year under center and could end up being the first pick in next year's NFL draft. When all he is - and all he can be - comes together, don't be surprised if this year turns out to be a truly memorable one on the banks of the Olentangy.
After all, even opposing coaches praise him.
