"A fly that lands on Mike Pence's head and distracts America during the Vice-President Debate" wasn't on our 2020 bingo cards, but hey, we live in strange times.
That very event happened when the Vice President sat down less than a month before the 2020 presidential election to discuss the only VP debate with Senator Kamala Harris in Salt Lake City. Towards the end of the debate, when our energy waned, the spirits were revived when a stray fly landed on Pence's head, which was very clearly visible on his white hair. And this was not a brief visit; The error persisted for two minutes and three seconds.

Viewers took the opportunity to memorize the expected moment, but to the surprise of the internet, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden also took part. First he tweeted (or more realistically his quick-witted social media coordinator) a behind-the-scenes recording of a fly swatter in his hand. "Throw in $ 5 to make this campaign fly," read the headline, followed by a link to donate to the Biden-Harris campaign.
He then immediately published the link, which redirects to
And because two tweets weren't enough, his team retweeted a post from Biden's base fans on Team Joe. A fly swatter graphic reads puns like "don't let this debate go" and "truth about flies". According to Biden's Merch website, this gossip is already on sale for $ 10.
The fly swatters were apparently an instant hit. Zach McNamara, the Democratic National Committee's assistant director of direct marketing, tweeted after the debate that the Biden campaign had already sold 15,000 of them.
Aside from bug jokes, Biden also took a moment to congratulate his runner-up Senator Harris on her contribution to the debate. ". @ KamalaHarris, you made us all proud tonight," he tweeted.
