Billie Eilish was almost signed by Jared Leto after playing at his dinner party before she was famous
Before becoming a mega pop star with multiple Grammy awards on her shelf, Billie Eilish gave Oscar winners Jared Leto and Leonardo DiCaprio a private concert at home. No big deal.
On Tuesday night's Late Late Show with James Corden, Leto revealed that he had reluctantly discovered Eilish and her brother Finneas before the two became the superstar musical duo they are today.
"I got to know them through Emma Ludbrook and Tom Windish I think. They weren't signed and I thought maybe I would try to sign them, they were so incredibly talented and just special people. Music is one thing, but I think they're just amazingly intelligent, really empathetic, just really good people, and I like them a lot, "shared Leto.
Both Eilish and Finneas are nominated for multiple Grammys this year after Eilish won the four big awards in 2020. However, Leto still remembers when they were just two aspiring musicians with bright futures.
Leto shared, "At some point they were playing in my house. I had a small dinner for 12 and I said, 'Hey, will you come and play some songs?' and they said, "Yeah, sure." And they showed up with a Guitar Center PA and played the most heartbreaking music ... It shouldn't have sounded so good, it was impossible that it sounded that good.
"I remember Leo DiCaprio was there and a few other people and they just said, 'How did you find these people and who are they?' Everyone was just jaws on the ground, a maximum of 12 people with me in the hills. Yes, just great people. I'm also big fans. "
James Corden's Late Late Show airs on CBS at 12:37 p.m. on weekdays.
