Boba Fett Series Confirmed as a Mandalorian Spinoff; Pedro Pascal Will Be Back as Mando for Season 3
Jon Favreau closed the book on speculation about the Boba Fett series, which was teased at the end of the season two finale of The Mandalorian, and confirmed that it was a spin-off in its own right.
"This is actually separate from the third season of The Mandalorian," said the EP on Good Morning America on Monday.
The Boba Fett book, as it is titled, is already being shot. "After that, we're going into production with Season 3 of The Mandalorian, with the main character we know and love (played by Pedro Pascal)."
The Boba Fett book, which will appear on The Mandalorian's timeline, was held back by the many other series announcements made on Disney Investor Day, Favreau said because "we didn't want to spoil the surprise." Indeed, Disney + has been 100 percent mother of what Boba Fett's book is and what isn't since the end of The Mandalorian's season two finale.
Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen will star in the spin-off, repeating their roles as Boba Fett and assassin Fennec Shand, while Favreau will EP with Dave Filoni and Robert Rodriguez.
After The Mandalorian had delivered a highly unexpected (not yet) and out of this world cameo in the last minutes of the actual finale, he slipped into a post-credits scene in which Boba Fett (played from Star Wars Episode II : Attack of the Clones) 'Morrison) shot down Bib Fortuna with the help of Fennec Shand (agents of SHIELD's Ming-Na Wen) to claim the throne in the palace of Jabba the Hutt on the planet Tatooine. After the dynamic duo settled in, the title card “THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT…. COMING DECEMBER 2021 ”appeared on the screen.
Immediately after the tease, some assumed The Book of Boba Fett was a rumored spin-off series in its own right, while others wondered aloud if the intrepid bounty hunter would in some way "take over" The Mandalorian, at least for season 3 - which is also in the December 2021 should have its premiere. (In addition to the overlapping release dates for sister series, there was also the question of what The Mandalorian will look like when Din Djarin's quest is complete.)
