Boeing 757 Diverted To Emergency Landing Over Engine Problems

For the third time in two days, a Boeing aircraft (NYSE: BA) had to land if engine problems occurred during the flight.

"DL2123 en route from Atlanta to Seattle was diverted to Salt Lake City out of caution after an indicator pointed to a possible problem with one of its engines," a Delta official said in a press release. “The flight landed safely without incident and rolled to the gate without assistance. We are working on resuming customers for a later flight. We apologize for the delay and inconvenience. "
Why It Matters: This incident happened two days after a United Airlines (NASDAQ: UAL) flight had a broken engine and exterior panel debris spilled in a Colorado community shortly after leaving Denver. There were no injuries from the flight that involved a 777 aircraft.
Boeing today requested grounding of its 777th. Powered by the 4000-112 engine from Pratt & Whitney, a subsidiary of Raytheon Technologies (NASDAQ: RTX). The Delta aircraft was also powered by a Pratt & Whitney engine, although it is not yet certain whether it is the same model.
Also two days ago, the engine of a Boeing 747 freighter flying from the Netherlands to New York City exploded shortly after take-off, causing engine parts to shower the Dutch city of Meerssen. Two people were injured by the falling debris, and the Bermuda-based Longtail Aviation aircraft landed safely in Belgium.
