Bold and Beautiful's Karla Mosley Confirms Exit, Played Daytime's First Regular Transgender Character

Karla Mosley of The Bold and the Beautiful disappeared from the screen for over a year and has confirmed that her run as Maya Avant - the first regular transgender character in American television history - is actually "over for the time being".
"A bittersweet #FBF, as we have been saying for this icon for so long," Mosley shared on Instagram on Friday (below) and celebrated Maya's arch as an "open trans supermodel, mother, formerly imprisoned and unaccompanied power player".
"Because of her," the actress continued, "we saw the first regular commercial for a trans character on US television ... and the first black family in @boldandbeautifulcbs history." Thank you for your love and support over the years! "
When Mosley made her B&B debut in 2013, ex-cheater Maya came to town looking for her daughter, who was put up for adoption. In April 2015, amid her success as a supermodel (as well as a romance with the most suitable Rick Forrester), Maya made history when she was exposed as transgender, initially as a target of blackmail by her own sister.
Maya made history as the first regular transgender character in US soaps, while The City's Azure (played by Carlotta Chang) and All My Children's Zoe Luper (Jeffrey Carlson) just returned.
Maya's landmark B&B family included sister / blackmailer Nicole (played by MacGyvers Reign Edwards), parents Vivienne (Anna Maria Horsford from The Last OG) and Julius (Obba Babatundé from SWAT), cousin Alexander (Adain Bradley) and half-sister Sasha Thompson (Felisha Cooper from Swedish Dicks).
Before joining B&B, Mosley's TV credits included Hart of Dixie, Angel From Hell, Guiding Light (where she played Christina Moore), and the kids show Hi-5.
