If you grew up in the Boston area and watch the Bruins every night, you are just like Riley Duran.
The difference between you and Duran? He's now a member of his favorite team.
The Bruins used their final 2020 NHL draft election (# 182 overall) to pick Duran, an 18-year-old forward from Woburn, Massachusetts who played at Lawrence Academy in Groton, Massachusetts and is devoted to Providence College in 2021.
2020 NHL Draft Recap: Every Bruins Draft Pick from Day 2
Duran said on Wednesday he has been a Bruins fan "from the day I was born". Needless to say, he's pretty excited to get his NHL chance in Boston.
"My brain is just spinning," Duran told reporters in a video conference Wednesday. "It really is just a dream come true. I never thought I would be at this point and all of the hard work has paid off over the past few years.
"It's really great. It's just a dream come true. I'm speechless."
The Bruins already have three local players on their roster: Charlie Coyle from East Weymouth, Chris Wagner from Walpole and Matt Grzelcyk from Charlestown.
Duran admitted that Coyle was one of his favorite players who watched them grow up - after recovering from studying, he was the newest native talent to join the B's.
"I think when my name came up (in the draft) I went really black," said Duran. "I had no idea what was going on. I saw my mom, she was rocking her cell phone when she went up to take a picture and all."
Bruins' top draft pick describes his game in which he can improve
Duran will play for the USHL's Youngstown Phantoms this winter and travel to Providence the following year. So it will take a while before he gets to the Bruins. It sounds like he's already counting down the days.
"It's just a dream come true," said Duran. "The city of Woburn is always close by and everyone knows each other. It will be great when I get home."
