BREAKING: LSU quarterback Myles Brennan reportedly walking away from football

We've been waiting for a big domino to fall in LSU's tight quarterback battle this offseason, and that news broke Monday.
According to a report by WWL radio host Kristian Garic, sixth-year quarterback Myles Brennan - who was viewed by some as the favorite to win the starting job - is leaving the football game after two injury-plagued seasons.
Garic reports that Brennan was told by coach Brian Kelly that he would not win the seed. We are still awaiting confirmation from Brennan or LSU as to the accuracy of the report.

With Brennan's departure, it would seemingly open the door for Jayden Daniels' transfer from Arizona State to win the job. Daniels was Kelly's handpicked transfer portal option after three years as a starter at Tempe.
After two productive seasons in which he threw 22 touchdowns with just three interceptions, Daniels struggled a little in 2021. He threw as many interceptions (10) as he had touchdowns, and his total mileage has declined significantly since his first season as a starter, despite playing more games. However, he posted a career-high in graduation rate (65.4).
Daniels still faces at least nominal competition from redshirt newcomer Garrett Nussmeier, who saw some action last fall and impressed this spring.
For Brennan, this decision marks the end of a long and checkered career that hasn't quite gone according to plan. After three seasons as a backup — two of which were spent behind the best passer in school history at Joe Burrow — Brennan stepped into the 2020 season as a starter.
After a strong start to the season, an abdominal injury in Week 3 ended his season. He was expected to keep the starting job in 2021 but suffered a non-football arm injury just before camp that cost him his season.
Brennan initially entered the transfer portal after the season but chose to remain at LSU even after Daniels was added. After a solid spring game, he seemed ready to fight for the job but it seems like he's settling on ventures that don't involve football.
