In a new TLC special airing Buddy Valastro: Road to Recovery Wednesday night, Buddy shares more details about the injury he sustained while bowling at home with his family in Montville, New Jersey this fall. Prior to the special, the Cake Boss star released a few clips from the show, including home safety footage that shows the moment his family members rushed out of the house for help from Joey Faugno, Buddy's brother-in-law and a licensed paramedic and firefighter , to search .
"I drove to Buddy's driveway about five minutes to one o'clock and I remember seeing [his daughter] Sofia and [niece] Lucia," Joey recalled in a clip from Road to Recovery. “And they waved their hands and I got out of the car and heard my sister Lisa scream, 'Help my husband! Help my husband! Oh my god, help my husband! Call 911!' That's all I heard. "Joey then rushed into the house where he found Buddy" pinned "his hand on the back of the bowling machine.
Later in the clip, reality star Buddy Jr.'s son was standing at the bowling machine explaining how his father's hand got stuck.
“It was bleeding everywhere. Blood on the needles, still blood everywhere. We cleaned as much as we could, ”said Buddy Jr. as the camera zoomed in on the pens.
According to what Buddy revealed on the Today show earlier this fall, the reality star was trying to restart the pinsetter of his bowling alley machine at home when his right hand suddenly got pinched. While his hand was stuck, the Cake Boss star said a metal stick impaled his hand between the middle and ring fingers.
"I thought I was going to faint," Buddy said at the time. "I looked at my hand and there was blood everywhere."
Fortunately, Buddy Jr. and his brother Marco were there with Joey and immediately grabbed tools to free Buddy from the machine. After his release, Buddy was taken to a local hospital where he underwent two emergency operations.
"I'm so mad at myself," says Carlos Bakery owner Buddy Jr. after his operations in another Road to Recovery clip. "Buddy, my hand is everything to me. It is everything."
While speaking with People last October, Buddy stated that as part of his recovery plan, he was going through a lot of physical therapy and possibly more surgery. Although worried about what this means for his future role at Carlo's Bakery, he feels "lucky" that things haven't gotten worse.
"It went through my hand and through my two fingers, but if it were four inches deeper it would have hit my wrist and forgot, I could have bleeded out," he told the outlet. "You don't realize how close you were or it could have torn my fingers off. So much could have happened."
