Child accidentally given kilo of cocaine after former Royal Marines imported it in Lego boxes

A child accidentally received a kilo of cocaine after two former Royal Marines imported the drug into the country in Lego boxes, a court heard.
Jack Jones, 28, and his former Royal Marines colleague Isaac Rasmussen, 28, were sentenced to 16 and a half and 10 years in prison at Liverpool Crown Court on Tuesday.
Paul Jones, 43, was also sentenced to seven and a half years in prison after the court heard that his addresses were used as the destination for the drugs that were smuggled into the country from Holland in DPD packages.
Eighteen kilograms of cocaine, worth £ 1.8 million street value, were seized by police, with one of the packages being delivered to Paul Jones's address when police were executing an arrest warrant last year.
The police found eight Lego Duplo boxes, each with one kilogram of high-purity cocaine.
The court heard that the same day a package was delivered to an address in Whiston where Rasmussen was a tenant but was accepted by a neighbor.
A few weeks later, the neighbor gave her son's friend one of the Lego boxes that needed a present for her boyfriend's birthday.
The box, on which a fire engine was depicted, was wrapped as a gift and given to the child whose mother opened it, according to the court.
The box contained a solid block of white cocaine.
Judge Stuart Driver QC told Rasmussen, “You have allowed your home to be used for the delivery of multi-kilo packages of Class A drugs.
"Part of such a shipment to your address, disguised as Lego, was inadvertently given to a young child as a birthday present, leaving the child at risk of serious injury."
The court heard that the criminals were using the encrypted messaging service Encrochat, which was infiltrated by police last year.
In a message, Jack Jones told a contact: "Bro, we're going to be multimillionaires in three months, ha ha ha."
