China's Communist party leadership says to promote Taiwan's reunification with mainland: Xinhua
BEIJING (Reuters) - China will promote the reunification of Taiwan with the mainland and peaceful cross-strait development, according to a meeting of leaders of the ruling Chinese Communist Party.
China will also maintain the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and Macau, a meeting of the Central Committee, the ruling Communist Party's largest elite decision-making body, held on October 26-29, said a Xinhua report.
China views Taiwan as a breakaway province to be brought back under its sovereignty by force if necessary.
