Chris Christie says Michael Flynn 'never belongs anywhere near the White House'
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie participated in a Sunday edition of The Situation Room With Wolf Blitzer in response to reports that President Trump raised the idea of martial law and repeal at a meeting at the White House on Friday of the elections. Trump's contested former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who reportedly attended the meeting with his attorney Sidney Powell, has been campaigning for martial law for weeks.
"That's why someone like Michael Flynn never belongs anywhere near the White House, much less in the Oval Office," said Christie. "And his lawyer, Sidney Powell."
Christie has been warning Trump about Flynn for years and repeated that point on Sunday.
"I've been talking about how dangerous I found General Flynn to be since the transition in 2016," Christie said. "I sat with him in security briefings with then-candidate Donald Trump and then with President Donald Trump, and I will tell you that he is in no position to give advice to anyone."
Trump denied having brought up the idea of introducing martial law and called it “fake news” in a tweet. Christie advised the president to stop welcoming Flynn or Powell to the White House to avoid similar reporting in the future.
"I think the best advice I can give to the President is to keep Michael Flynn and Sidney Powell out of the Oval Office," said Christie. "And then these really bad ideas stay out of the Oval Office."
The situation room with Wolf Blitzer is broadcast on weekdays at 5 p.m. on CNN.
