Chris Cooley: Dwayne Haskins 'acted like he was above' coronavirus protocols
Cooley: Haskins acted like he was over the coronavirus logs that originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
When Chris Cooley, the former Washington tight end, saw the photos of Dwayne Haskins parting without a mask, it was clear to him that the quarterback was not thinking of others by following the correct protocols.
"Everyone is dealing with it across the board. So that's something to be dealt with. The problem becomes when people act like they're beyond, especially in areas where this is not possible," Cooley said at Kevin Sheehan Show Podcast. "Dwayne acted like he was over the COVID logs."
For Cooley, what Haskins did may not have caught as many eyes in normal times, but these types of actions during a pandemic are unacceptable.
It wasn't just that Haskins was putting himself at risk at a time when he got the opportunity to start again in Washington, but that he was influencing everyone else with whom he shares the locker room. His teammates and coaches worked hard to prevent an outbreak.
With just one move, everything the team worked for, including a chance for the NFC East title, could have derailed. Cooley felt that Haskins wasn't putting the team first, and he didn't want to see that from the quarterback.
“I think it was a really ignorant, complacent decision on his part. I think it was selfish and I understand that they are bored. What do we have left, a month? God just do it another month. Ridiculous, "said Cooley." The more I think about it, the more I think that you owe so much to your coaches, the other players, the other players in the NFL to continue the season that they have. I don't know, this is frustrating. "
Haskins has since been stripped of its captain and fined $ 40,000.
