Chris Godwin says giving No. 12 to Tom Brady 'bothered me a little bit'

Playing with the greatest quarterback ever has its advantages - and if you are Chris Godwin, a notable disadvantage.
The Buccaneers Wide Receiver handed over his # 12 jersey to Tom Brady shortly after the former New England Patriots quarterback signed at Tampa Bay in March.
But Godwin admitted on Wednesday that he was initially not interested in switching from No. 12 to No. 14, even though that was done out of consideration for the GOAT.

"I've been in high school (number 12) and that means a lot to me," Godwin said on Wednesday during a live Twitter stream to "The Checkdown." "At first it bothered me a bit; it kind of attacked me because it's part of my identity. But when the goat comes and calls you, you admit to him somehow."
Godwin and No. 12 indeed go back a long way: in addition to the wideout that bears the number in high school, college and among professionals, he and his fiance have No. 12 on their Twitter and Instagram profiles . When Brady first signed, Godwin said he would "definitely" keep number 12 if Brady didn't want to.
Unfortunately for Godwin, Brady literally built a brand at number 12, and "TB12" would never become "TB14". However, Godwin is not going into the numbers change, especially now that his team could be a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
"Hopefully I can make one or two or three rings out of it," added Godwin. "I was more than happy to do that. I have a new person for me, 1-4. We will go forward and make something special out of it."
The 24-year-old has already set a high standard after finishing third in the NFL last season and receiving yards (1,333). But he and Brady started work by attending group training sessions in the Tampa area, even given the recent NFL Players' Association recommendation to avoid them.
