Chris Rock explains why he turned down 'a couple offers' to be on The Sopranos
Chris Rock almost didn't appear in season four of FX Fargo because "sometimes you can respect something so much that you don't even want to be a part of it," he told The Hollywood Reporter and the same feeling that actually kept him off ever to appear on HBO's The Sopranos.
The comedian gave the reveal during the 2021 THR Drama Actor Roundtable that included Bridgerton's Regé-Jean Page, The Crowns Josh O'Connor, Lovecraft Country’s Jonathan Majors, Small Axe's John Boyega and host Lacey Rose that was during The Chris Rock Show still on HBO, "I got a couple of offers to be on The Sopranos and I thought, 'I like it too much, I don't want to spoil it.'"

So what made Creator Noah Hawley's Fargo offering different?
"I saw the way he interacted with Bokeem Woodbine," said Rock, referring to the Emmy-nominated role of Dead Presidents actor as Mike Milligan on season two of the FX anthology series. “Sometimes people do a great job and then when they deal with black people it's horrible. But with [Hawley] I saw how he treated Bokeem and I thought, 'I can be entirely in your hands.' "
To close the loop, Rock previously told EW that his Fargo character Loy Cannon was "Tony Soprano-esque," meaning the show actually allowed him to play the gang boss rather than guest star to one.
