A native of Dallas, Texas, was the host for the local ABC broadcaster's evening news show. While working for a Phoenix television station, Sign broke the news that former President Clinton met with Lynch at Sky Harbor Airport in June 2016. The meeting raised suspicions that Clinton was running Lynch on his wife's behalf.
At the time, Hillary Clinton was a presidential candidate and was being investigated for using a private email server for official public communications rather than the State Department's official email accounts on federal secure servers. This practice may have disclosed state secrets to foreign services.
The Justice Department and State Department investigations later concluded that the investigation was not biased and Hillary Clinton was not being prosecuted.
"Chris has been a great leader in our newsroom," wrote ABC 33/40 on Saturday in honor of the reporter.
“He worked with our reporters on a daily basis, but also worked behind the scenes with the I-Team and news managers on major event coverage. It was very likely that you would receive an email from him in the middle of the night with a story idea. He had a passion for journalism and showed it every day while pushing himself and his colleagues to be the best. "
Sign, who played the offensive lineman in Alabama in the 1990s, wrote a book about meeting Bill Clinton, Secret on the Tarmac.
Survivors include his wife Laura and three sons. No memorial plans were announced.
