Coast Guard urgently search for missing couple hundreds of miles off Atlantic Coast

The United States Coast Guard is urgently searching for a Virginia Beach, Virginia couple who were last heard from hundreds of miles offshore in the Atlantic Ocean while they were on a sailing trip to the Azores, Portugal.
Yanni Nikopoulos and Dale Jones, both 65, left Hampton, Virginia on June 8 en route to the Azores. However, Nikopoulos and Jones reported to Jones' daughter five days later, on June 13, that they had encountered inclement weather about 460 miles east of Virginia Beach and that they had made the decision to turn back after their ship sustained damage during the storm , according to a statement released by the United States Coast Guard (USCG).

Four days later, on June 17, United States Coast Guard Fifth District Command Guardsmen received a report from Jones' daughter informing them that she still had not heard from Nikopoulos and Jones and that she was very concerned about her whereabouts and well-being.
"Although no date has been set for her return, an expected return date of June 20 has been provided by the daughter," the USCG said in its statement.

"In situations like this, where there are so many unknowns, our efforts to coordinate must cast a wide and deliberate net," said Command Duty Officer Chief Brian Gainey. “We're tracking cellphone and radio pings as we work with our colleagues in Bermuda to pinpoint the smartest search area for our flight crews. It's a lot of detective work, but it's all about finding these two people and bringing them home to their families."
