College Football Playoff: Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Notre Dame make the field

The top four college football playoffs have never changed throughout the season.
Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Notre Dame are the four playoff teams in 2020, despite the fact that the Irish lost to the Tigers in the ACC championship game on Saturday. Notre Dame defeated Texas A&M for last place in the leaderboard with a 10-1 record to the Aggies' 8-1 mark.
Notre Dame was number 2 in the playoff rankings for the first four tallies of the season. The Irish fell two places to fourth on Sunday and will play # 1 at the Rose Bowl at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The game is a rematch of the 2013 BCS championship game. The title game was played by Alabama, 42 -14 won.
Clemson versus Ohio State again
The other semi-final will be a rematch of a semi-final from a year ago. Clemson and Ohio State play against each other in the Sugar Bowl. The two teams played against each other in the Fiesta Bowl 2019. Clemson won this thriller to advance to the championship game.
Texas A&M was fifth, Oklahoma sixth. The Sooners beat Iowa State for the Big 12 title on Saturday. That means Cincinnati - a team that ended the season 9-0 and won the American Athletic Conference title - nowhere near the playoffs. Same goes for Coastal Carolina, a team that ended 11-0 and beat Louisiana and BYU in 2020.
Alabama was number 1 in each of the five playoff rankings that season. The Crimson Tide became the first team to win 10-0 in the SEC, ending an undefeated regular season with a 52-46 win over Florida in the SEC championship game on Saturday night.

Ohio State was ranked 4th in the top four rankings, moving up to 3rd with the loss of Notre Dame. The Buckeyes only played six games in 2020 but won all of them. That included a 22-10 win over Northwestern on Saturday in the Big Ten championship game.
Clemson was No. 3 in the top four rankings after losing to Notre Dame (47:40) in the regular season. That double overtime loss came without star QB Trevor Lawrence. With Lawrence behind the center on Saturday, the Tigers devastated the Irish and proved legitimate contenders for the national title.
Alabama is also back in the playoffs after missing the teams of four for the first time in the 2019 season. The Crimson Tide has played six of the seven college football playoffs.
The other three teams also appear repeatedly in the playoffs. Clemson also made six appearances in the CFP. The Tigers only missed the first playoffs in 2014.
This season marks the fourth playoff spot for the state of Ohio and the second playoff spot for Notre Dame. The Buckeyes are making the playoffs for the first time in a row, and Notre Dame is back in the playoffs after losing to Clemson in the 2018 semi-finals.
