Dad climbs into excavator, swings bucket at Vermont troopers arresting son, video shows

A 52-year-old father tried to fend off two state police officers who were arresting his son outside a Vermont home by attacking them with a giant piece of construction equipment, according to Vermont state police.
Two police officers responded to a June 15 call about a physical altercation at a home in Woodbury, about 60 miles east of Burlington. A dispute had apparently broken out between 24-year-old Brandon Tallman and his parents, who also owned the home, according to a VSP press release.
But when cops arrested Tallman, his parents intervened, police say and dashcam video shows.
While Tallman is being escorted to a patrol vehicle, a fight ensues, with soldiers wrestling Tallman and his mother to the ground and pinning them down, video shows.
Meanwhile, Tallman's father, Wayne Tallman, approaches with a backhoe. He stops the vehicle a short distance away, raises the metal arm to the sky, and points the bucket at the soldiers as if threatening to throw it down on them.
As one soldier struggles to hold down two people, the other stands up, unholsters his gun and orders Wayne Tallman to get out of the excavator.
Instead, he approaches the soldiers and swings it over their heads, forcing them to duck backwards, the video shows.
The trooper, who is shouting orders, moves close to the excavator cab and now aims his gun at Wayne Tallman, who sticks his head out of the cab and says something to the trooper before remanning the controls.
The soldiers were able to get Wayne Tallman to exit the excavator and he was arrested for aggravated assault against a protected officer, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment and obstruction, police said.
Brandon Tallman is charged with aggravated assault, burglary and resisting arrest, police said.
