Dan Aykroyd says Harold Ramis will be 'honorably represented' in 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife'
It's been 36 years since the original Ghostbusters film dominated the box office, and when the long-awaited Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2021 finally drops, it will go without Harold Ramis, who died in 2014. But according to Dan, he won't forget Aykroyd, who told what it was like to make the third Ghostbusters film without his former writing partner, Costar and friend.
"Having this formation without this man standing right on the line with us was a pretty serious adjustment," said Aykroyd EW exclusively while promoting his new travel channel series, Hotel Paranormal, on Wednesday. "He will be very well represented in the new film, I can tell you. He is represented very honorably."
The seasoned actor, who became a star in the first four seasons of Saturday Night Live, also took the future of the franchise into the hands of Jason Reitman, the son of Ivan Reitman, the original director of Ghostbusters and his sequel to Ghostbusters II.
"He passes on the DNA of the first two films directly to the new generation," he says of the younger Reitman. "It's just a lot of fun watching these great young actors throw the old Cadillac around and hold the gear in their hands. The story that comes out of it is scary and funny and hearty and funny too. It feeds on the possibility of more follow-ups with this group and with others who want to join. "
He added, "Anyone can be a ghostbuster. Just start studying science and physics. Every county in the United States has a paranormal society, and I don't think that was true about Ghostbusters. Nobody knew what at the time Ectoplasm is before Ghostbusters. We introduced this term to millions of people around the world where it was just a standard part of the colloquial language in research my family has been dealing with for generations. We made a joke of it [in the movie] and I think that's fine with everyone on the other side. [laughs] "
The Hotel Paranormal will be premiered on July 11 through the Travel Channel.
