Dan Levy Wore Boots He’s Wanted for 11 Years As He Paid Tribute to Queer Culture at 2021 Met Gala
Dan Levy finally got the chance to wear his dream shoes to the 2021 Met Gala.
The "Schitt’s Creek" star came to the red carpet in Loewe boots. The black leather pair, which featured thick buckle straps and eye-catching gold rivets, wasn't just a fancy statement - it also had a deep personal meaning for the actor. Levy revealed in Instagram Stories that the J.W. Anderson shoes - originally made by Loewe designer Jonathan Anderson for his line of the same name - were the ones he "scoured the Internet to buy" in 2010.

"Whole circle moment to remake it for me last night," Levy captioned a repost of Anderson's photo of the boots, which were complete with blue and pink floral accents.

Levy's boots were also part of an outfit that paid tribute to queer culture. The Emmy-winning actor's Loewe ensemble paid homage to two works by the late gay artist David Wojnarowicz: Fuck You F-got F-cker and Untitled (One Day This Kid…).
Both pieces are originally from the late 80s and early 90s, at the height of the AIDS crisis - so Levy's outfit can also serve as an homage to AIDS activism. The look consisted of a blue shirt with buttons with voluminous puff sleeves and trousers, whereby the two works of art by Wojnarowicz were combined in elaborate beadwork on the front. Levy's outfit was complete with a white clutch bag with an image of Wojnarowicz and Cartier jewelry.

Levy wasn't the only star to make a bold statement on the Met Gala carpet. Numerous LGBTQIA + identifying celebrities attended the event in outfits related to the iconic characters, movements and styles of LGBTQIA + culture. These include public figures such as Megan Rapinoe, Ben Platt and Nikkie de Jager in looks by Sergio Hudson, Christian Cowan and Edwin Oudshoorn Couture.
This year, the Met Gala took place in September after the 2020 event was canceled due to the coronavirus. The 2021 exhibition is divided into two parts. The first section, entitled "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion," opens on September 18th. With a focus on the “modern vocabulary of American fashion”, it will honor the 75th anniversary of the Costume Institute.
A second Met Gala will be held on May 2, 2022 to celebrate the second part of the exhibition, which opens on May 5. The second part of the exhibition is a collaboration with the Costume Institute and the American Wing, which will examine the evolution of American fashion through a more detailed historical lens.
