Danny Green and Fiancée Receiving Death Threats After Game 5: 'I Hope They Are That Passionate About Voting'
Sports fans can be too tough at times. Unfortunately for Danny Green, he and his family experienced the ugly underbelly of NBA fandom after the Lakers' defeat in Game 5.
When the clock started ticking at the end of the fourth, LeBron James drove the ball in the paint and brought in a ton of Heat players. Rather than force the lay-up, James dealt the ball to Danny Green, who missed the wide-open three. This (along with the fights he's had since the restart) didn't fit well with the Lakers fan base and they decided to take it out on Green. On Sunday, ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported that both Danny Green and his fiancée had received death threats for his hand in the loss.
"Danny Green said he spoke to his fiancée about the death threats she's had on social media since Game 5 against him and her," McMenamin said before urging fans to "get a grip".
Green has accepted his guilt for botching the win. He told McMenamin that he sped up the shot slightly because he didn't know how much time was on the watch.
"It looked good," he explained. "I would do anything to get that shot again, trust me. ... Every person who plays basketball knows it's never just a game."
Regarding the death threats, Green wants people to know that there are bigger things that this type of energy can target than a game of basketball.
"I hope they are so passionate about voting or getting justice for these people, who deserve justice or making better change in the country," said Green.
