Dave Bautista said he turned down a role in James Gunn's upcoming "Suicide Squad" film and decided to work on Zack Snyder's "Army of the Dead" instead because he got more money and was able to build a new relationship with Netflix.
Bautista, a former WWE-turned-actor wrestler, previously worked with Gunn on two Guardians Of The Galaxy films and was one of the director's most dedicated supporters after he was briefly fired from Marvel after some of his previous offensive tweets surfaced again.
During an interview with Digital Spy, Bautista said that Gunn wrote a role specifically for him on "Suicide Squad" and that he was eager to reunite with the director, but was also offered a lead role in Zack Snyder, which caused one Planning conflict.
"I was ready for this, and then I got Army of the Dead, which was not only a lead role for me, but also that I really wanted to work with Zack Snyder. I wanted to work with him for years," said Bautista.
"I had the 'Suicide Squad' where I got to work with my boy again, even though it's a minor role, and then I had 'Army of the Dead' that I can work on with Zack to get a relationship with Netflix I'm starring in a great movie - and I'm getting a lot more money. "

"I had to call James and said, 'It's heartbreaking to want to be with you as a friend, but professionally it's the smart choice for me,'" Bautista continued.
"He [Gunn] said, 'I get it completely. I am proud of you that you are even in that position. I am proud that I had something to do with you being in this position that you are these have to make tough decisions. '"
Army of The Dead is one of Netflix's most anticipated releases of the year. The film brings Zack Snyder back to the zombie genre. The director made his debut with Dawn of the Dead, the remake of George A. Romero's 1978 zombie classic.
The film is rated R, and earlier this week Snyder told the Sunday Times that he had to remove scenes from the film because they contained moments that might cross a line. "We had a sequence where one of the male strippers had a huge penis that had a bite taken out of it," Snyder said. "We thought that was too much."
Army of The Dead is slated to hit select cinemas April 14th and Netflix on May 21st.
