David Letterman on friendship with Howard Stern: ‘I just think arm's length may be the way to go’

David Letterman appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, where he spoke about Howard Stern and the feud that almost ended their friendship.
“Back then, Howard was a shock jock. And I've always been afraid of Howard. Because I didn't want Howard to say awkward things about me... But he did."
Stern not only badmouthed Letterman, but also dragged the wife of former Late Show host Regina Lasko into the mess. In 2018, Stern apologized for Letterman's Netflix series My Next Guest Needs No Introduction starring David Letterman. Since then, the two have remained friends.

"I only speak to him about once a year," Letterman said. "That is much. And last time it was a mistake.”
Letterman recently thought Stern sent him one of his coveted original paintings.
"There's a beautiful painting, a watercolor," Letterman said. "And so I'll text him right back. I said, 'Wow, Howard, that's amazing'. And when I get home, I'll call him. And he's like, "Oh yeah, I sent that to you by mistake." So I love Howard. I just think arm length might be the way to go here.
