The clip created by the visual effects studio Framestore has already angered and outraged many. It's designed to highlight and warn the dangers of disinformation and fake news, and show how compelling fake videos can be.
In the almost minute-long clip, the fake version of Her Majesty sits next to the family photos that she normally puts up for her annual address at her desk in front of a Christmas tree. Everything seems familiar to me, except for the classy jokes about family members.
"I haven't always been able to speak clearly and from the heart on the BBC," said the profound Queen, voiced by actress Debra Stephenson. "So I'm grateful to Channel 4 for giving me the opportunity to say what I want without anyone putting words in my mouth."
The false queen added, “2020 has been a challenging year for all of us. A year when, thanks to the lack of toilet paper, most of you finally understood what it feels like to have an awkward position on the throne. "
The fake monarch talked about trust before touching royal family members Meghan Markle, Prince Harry and Prince Andrew. All three dominated headlines around the globe this year, albeit for very different reasons.
"One thing that has sustained many of us is our families," said the substitute queen. “That's why I was so sad about Harry and Meghan's departure. Few things are more hurtful than someone telling you that they prefer the company of Canadians. "
"But at least I still have my beloved Andrew around," she added. "It is unlikely that he will travel to North America anytime soon."

Channel 4's program director Ian Katz spoke about the intent of the video in a press release Thursday.
"Deepfake technology is the terrifying new frontier in the battle between misinformation and truth," said Katz. "This year's alternative Christmas address, apparently held by one of the most famous and trusted personalities in the country, is a powerful reminder that we can no longer trust our own eyes."
Hopefully most will realize that when she breaks into a TikTok dance at the end of the video, it's not the Queen.

The full video of the fake address will be broadcast at 3:25 p.m. GMT Christmas Day on Channel 4. The Real Queen's message will air at 3pm. GMT on BBC One and ITV.
