Detroit Lions predictions vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: A 'hat and T-shirt game'

Free Press sports journalists make their predictions for the Detroit Lions (5-9) game against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-5) Saturday at Ford Field (1:00 p.m., NFL Network and NBC in Detroit):
Carlos Monarrez
If the Lions somehow win this game, they should both be promoted to the battlefield immediately. But that doesn't happen against Tom Brady, who leads one of the NFL's best pass and goal offenses for a motivated Bucs team that - like coach Bruce Arians likes to be a hat-and-t-shirt game - a playoff Place with a win can win or a tie. Before the Lions had any COVID-related coaching issues, I picked the Bucs to win at 28-20. Now I'm adding 10 points to the bucs and taking 10 points away from the Lions. Selection: privateers 38, lions 10

QB Tom Brady, 12, is about to lead the Buccaneers to their first playoff spot since 2007.
Matthew Stafford will be playing so the game should stay competitive early on. But the Lions will miss four defensive starters in a defense that has already struggled. Oh, and interim coach Darrell Bevell and several coaches are being quarantined. Selection: Freibeuter 34, Löwen 23

Dave Birkett
The Lions play better against the Bucs than they do against Tennessee, but with everything that happened this week - from Brayden Coombs' sacking to the COVID-related changes to the coaching staff - this game has the potential to be just another router. Perhaps the Lions will keep it closed early during the time that there are new game callers. But Tampa's attack is too explosive, the Lions are too understaffed on the defense, and this week has been too hectic to last. Brady and the Bucs can secure a place in the playoffs with a win and I think they get it in a relatively easy way. Selection: Freibeuter 38, Löwen 21
