Disney confirms ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ is a ‘Mandalorian’ spin-off series
When the season two finale of The Mandalorian was canceled last week, it teased something called The Book of Boba Fett in a post-credits scene. It was clear that Boba Fett would be in the spotlight for some time. We didn't know if this was a movie, a new series, an arc about The Mandalorian, or something else entirely. Today Disney made it clear that The Book of Boba Fett will be a new series in December 2021. Additionally, we know it will take place in the same general timeframe as The Mandalorian so it wouldn't surprise us to see some crossovers between these shows.
The tweet also confirms that the show is being executive produced by Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau along with Dave Filoni (executive producer of Star Wars Rebels) and prolific writer / director Robert Rodriguez (who recently directed episode 14 of The Mandalorian) . Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen will play their roles as Boba Fett and Fennec Shand, who they played in the final episodes of The Mandalorian. There's not much to be done yet, especially who will be running the show, but with only a year left to debut we should hear a lot about it in the months ahead. Another big question is when The Mandalorian will return to its third season - but with a big new series to debut, it wouldn't surprise us if the third season is pushed back a little to 2022.
