Dr. Susan Moore, an Indianapolis doctor who publicly called a regional hospital about racism, died this week of COVID-19.
Dr. Moore tested positive for the first time in late November. Early symptoms included high respiratory rate, high heart rate, severe fever, and coughing up blood. According to CBS News, she passed away this week after a series of social media posts describing multiple cases of treatment while hospitalized at Indiana University Hospital North.
"That's not how you treat patients, period," Moore said in a video. "So I don't trust this hospital and ask for rendition. These people wanted to send me home with new pulmonary infiltrates and all sorts of lymphadenopathy on my neck ... That's how black people get killed when you send them home and they don't know how to look after themselves I had to speak to someone - maybe the media, someone - to let people know how I was being treated in this place. "
According to a separate People report, Moore was eventually fired and stated on social media that she was home. However, in less than 12 hours she was admitted to a new hospital, St. Vincent Carmel. In her last update, Moore reported that she was being admitted to the intensive care unit.
News of Moore's mistreatment before her death met with heartbreak and anger on social media, including from several of her former classmates at the University of Michigan:
A GoFundMe was set up to help Dr. To help Moore's family with housing, meals and other needs. At the time of this writing, it was quickly approaching its target of $ 100,000.
