Documents: Cellphone pings helped find children's bodies

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Authorities used cell phone information from the now deceased uncle of two missing Idaho children to find the youths' bodies on a rural property earlier this month.
The police found the remains of 17-year-old Tylee Ryan and her brother, 7-year-old Joshua "JJ" Vallow, on June 9 after months of searching. They had not been seen since September, and investigators said the children's mother, Lori Vallow Daybell, and her husband, Chad Daybell, lied to the police about the children's whereabouts.
KBOI reported that court documents released late Friday show that the FBI has been tracking the cell phone of Alex Cox, Vallow's brother and JJ, and Tylee's uncle.
The FBI tracked Cox's cell phone four times on Daybell's property in September. According to court records, Cox's phone rang on September 6th, 9th, 23rd and 25th where the remains were found.
The neighbors also confirmed that they had seen fires on the property around September 6th and 9th, which they thought was unusual since a fire pit on the property was rarely used, according to court documents.
Chad Daybell has pleaded not guilty of destroying evidence. Lori Daybell has been in prison since February for leaving the child and hindering the investigation. Both daybells are believed to be a $ 1 million bond, and both are scheduled to be heard for the next month.
The complex case spanned multiple states and began when Lori Daybell's brother shot and killed her estranged husband Charles Vallow in a suburb of Phoenix last summer, what he called self-defense. Vallow wanted to divorce and said Lori believed that she had become a god-like figure who was responsible for initiating the biblical end times.
Her brother Alex Cox died in December of an obvious blood clot in his lungs.
Shortly after Vallow's death, Lori and the children moved to Idaho, where Chad Daybell lived. He ran a small publishing house and published fiction books that he wrote about apocalyptic scenarios loosely based on the theology of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He also recorded podcasts about the preparation for biblical end times, and friends said he claimed to have visions of "beyond the veil".
He was married to Tammy Daybell, who died in her sleep last October because of her natural obituary. The authorities became suspicious when Chad Daybell married Lori just two weeks later.
They had exhumed Tammy Daybell's body in December. The results of this autopsy have not been published.
