The 9-year-old pit bull / terrier mix was reunited with owner Julia Nemeth of Barberton, Ohio eight years after a home invasion, according to a press release from the Humane Society of Summit County (HSSC).
Julia, a mother of four, got Junior as a puppy and the two developed a strong bond. She even taught him hand signal commands so she could communicate with the dog without waking her children.
Then, in 2012, Junior was stolen during a home invasion. Although she hadn't found any signs of the dog for years, Julia never stopped looking for him. She searched local shelter photos and lost property online but never found Juinor, according to HSSC.

Unbeknownst to her, Julia's luck began to change in 2018 when Junior was handed over to the HSSC in July of that year. Known as "Buddy" at the shelter, he was treated for tapeworm on arrival, but was otherwise in relatively good health.
Eventually Junior / Buddy was put up for adoption and taken in by three different families over the years. However, none of the families were suitable for the puppy, and he was sent back to the shelter after each adoption.
In mid-December, Julia discovered Junior's photo on the HSSC website and immediately called the shelter. After Julia described her dog's personality, the shelter staff discovered that "Buddy" was actually a junior.

Julia brought her family to Junior the next day to make sure he was still comfortable with the group. That night, the Juinor family brought home after a successful meeting.
"I keep asking my husband to pinch me because I can't believe it's real," said Julia. "I can't believe Junior is home. He carried me through the challenges of my life and having him back is everything to me."
Julia said that Junior is well prepared to be home again. He has resumed normal activities of cuddling with family members on the couch, chewing his toys, and playing tag with Juliet's son in her backyard.
