Drew Barrymore adds her voice to an ever-growing chorus of celebrities and top athletes who throw their support behind Olympic gold gymnast Simone Biles.
After Simone decided to withdraw from both the team finals and the all-round individual events at the Tokyo Games in order to focus on her emotional well-being, the 46-year-old talk show host shared her thoughts on it in an emotional Instagram post . Alongside three photos of Simone (which you can see here), Drew penned a long caption explaining how "awesome" she is of the 24-year-old Olympic champion.
"Without any guesswork, I believe that you continue to set a bar for life that is second to none," began the "Never Been Kissed" star. "So many people don't know what to do and how to take care of themselves."
Drew then got personal in the post about why Simone's actions are so inspiring to her:
I've spent so much of my life running. I started working when I was 11 months old and I've been running ever since. I am happy. Just one more person on my journey. But I fight like a lion for that happiness by kicking my butt all over town and trying to improve myself. I hate the term self-care. There's no fight in it and it's too passive for me. But I have a face now. They! Simone Galle. A lovely embodiment of what it looks like to say no and sometimes stop running. It's in the form of an insanely disciplined and incredibly talented person. I'll see you and your face the next time I'm not sure how to stop running.

You have changed lives with it. You have given up so much and I am convinced that your reward will be much greater. The return on our investment is priceless and yet you have sacrificed so much to be so brave. You will take on a much more permanent role if you want us to all live. You've become an even bigger hero in that moment, if that's possible ?! And thank you again. I will introduce myself to you as I move forward in my own life. I believe I belong to a sea of grateful people who are allowed to continue to love and admire you. Now for even greater reasons than the seemingly insurmountable ones before. Lead. Please. But please also ask people what you need. And then we can all take care of each other.
In response to the emotional post, many Drew and Simone fans thanked the actress for sharing their thoughts and paying tribute to the Olympian. "She's such a strong woman and a great role model for young people," wrote one fan. "Falls? And goes away. Simone IS Thee MVP. That is, to put it nicely, Drew. ??????", added another added. "With deep sincerity, I hope she achieves this ...?" Remarked another fan.

It is currently unclear whether Simone will take part in the remaining individual events at the Tokyo Games, which run from Sunday 1st daily "to see if she will return.
"We support Simone's decision wholeheartedly and welcome her courage to put her well-being in the foreground," the statement said. "Her courage shows once again why she is a role model for so many."
